Captiva Main Replacement Update
August 24, 2007. Additional samples of the old 12” ductile iron main were removed from the north and south s-turns along the ‘Tween Waters section of Captiva, when the tie-ins were installed. The pipe samples were brought back to our shop for inspection by our corrosion engineers. The sample coupons were found to be in much worse shape than our earlier tests had indicated. The pipe has failed and needs to be replaced. On August 24th 2007, the Island Water Board of Directors authorized the installation of the previously deferred Phase III of the Captiva Main Replacement project. Work has already begun on this additional 4,900 feet of 12” pipe. We are still anticipating that the entire pipe replacement project will be completed before next season.
